Future Trends: School Design
This Fall Quarter at Cal Poly Pomona, students in Kevin O'Brien's advanced studio explored the rapidly evolving trends in education, and how architectural design can participate in this dialogue. During the 3-week project shown below, students 'interviewed' and collaborated with Kindergarten students at a local public school in the design and fabrication of classroom 'PODs' - miniature works of architecture designed to enhance the child's learning environment. Students worked in teams to conduct research, develop concepts, and explore alternative fabrication methods. After the presentation to the kindergartners, the projects were donated to the school.
