The new 45,000sf Residence Hall for Harvey Mudd College in Pomona is an addition to a campus designed in 1957 by Edward Durell Stone.  The building accommodates 134 new beds, and includes amenities such as a large Community Lounge, separate Student Lounges, Group Study Rooms, and Laundry Facilities.  The project includes a unique mix of suites, doubles, and singles to accommodate freshman through seniors in a vibrant mix.  In keeping with the existing buildings, the project is configured around a large courtyard designed to promote social interaction and extend the public space of the campus.  At the heart of courtyard is the glazed Student Lounge featuring a folded copper roof.  Copper ‘popouts’ along the façade delineate different room types, and pay tribute to the college’s namesake and his copper business enterprises.  Custom precast concrete panels are designed to subtly relate to the existing buildings notable feature.
